With your career so intertwined with technology and being “switched on,” how do you unplug and create time and space to be offline outside of working hours?
I started outrigger paddling about seven years ago as my New Year’s resolution to get on the water and create more work / life balance. I paddle at least twice a week at 6:45 a.m. before the workday starts. There’s nothing like a calm morning on the bay and with a varied crew whose only goal is to keep our minds in the boat and move the canoe.
I’ve also recently joined Honolulu Habitat for Humanity’s Wahine Build, an initiative to unite, educate, and empower more women in support of affordable housing on Oahu. It’s been rewarding to work alongside an inspiring group of women while at the same time helping to provide a sense of place and security to a Habitat family.
