Executive Vice President, Chief of Staff, and Corporate Secretary, Dominion Energy, and President, Dominion Energy Services

Executive Vice President, Chief of Staff, and Corporate Secretary, Dominion Energy, and President, Dominion Energy Services, joined the company a year after Diane as Assistant General Counsel. She was promoted to Executive Vice President in 2017 and to her current position in 2019. She oversees nearly every aspect of company operations alongside Diane.

What advice would you give someone considering a career in the energy industry?

Carter: The energy industry offers a myriad of opportunities. At Dominion Energy, we use the tagline: “The energy to love your life and your career.” We believe anyone can discover a career they love at our company. And they will be part of a team that is providing essential services to our communities while finding innovative solutions to protect the environment through our sustainability efforts.

When it comes to diversity, equity, and inclusion, how is Dominion Energy making progress, not promises?

Carter: Ensuring we have a diverse and inclusive group of colleagues is a top priority at Dominion Energy. We want a workplace that allows everyone to feel included, appreciated, and encouraged to grow, and we recognize diverse teams are more creative, thoughtful, and resilient.

Two years ago, we committed to increasing diverse workforce representation to reach 40 percent by  2026, and we are currently on track to achieve that goal.  We are making great progress—from 2016 until 2021 our diversity hiring rate has increased by 20 percentage points. And last year we spent more than 1 billion USD with diverse suppliers—almost double since 2016.
