As Vice President for Data Center Strategy at Meta, Rachel Peterson has led the development of data centers across the US, Europe, and Asia. From site selection, procurement, planning, and analytics through to sustainability, energy strategy, and community engagement, Peterson has been an integral part of all aspects of Meta’s data center development, including the company’s first-ever data center, which broke ground in 2009. Starting with a team of fewer than twenty people and only leased data center space, Peterson now manages 18 Meta-owned data center campuses (which contain multiple data centers, both live and under construction) to support nearly half the planet. With her creation of the company’s Women in Infrastructure group and her implementation of recruitment programs and hiring opportunities designed to bring in and retain more diverse talent, Peterson is also a champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion across the organization and an inspiration for women in tech.
