DE-CIX’s global expansion continues with the announcement at Capacity Middle East 2022 that that ‘IRAQ-IX powered by DE-CIX’ will be operated by DE-CIX making the Iraq the 18th country around the world to offer DE-CIX interconnection services.
As the only IX in the economically strong and populous Middle-Eastern country, DE-CIX will be operating ‘IRAQ-IXP powered by DE-CIX’ as a Service (DaaS) model built on DE-CIX’s award-winning interconnection infrastructure. This will include a robust full set of interconnection services. Technical implementation is planned in the course of 2022. The interconnection platform is set to serve as a hub for regional connectivity, enabling local networks low-latency interconnection and localization of global content, while increasing network stability, scalability and security.
The Internet penetration in Iraq, which is the third-largest country in the Middle East, is at 75%. The DE-CIX interconnection platform in Iraq will enable better Internet service for Iraqi businesses and people with low latency, and an improved end-user experience. Iraq has a population of 40 million of which 34 million are currently connected to the Internet.
