Developing New Interconnection Hubs

Through any-to-any and any-to-many connectivity options

According to Digital Realty’s Global Data Insights Survey (March 2022), 97 percent of businesses with revenues of over one billion USD have more than 20 IT locations, and 93 percent plan to add more over the next few years. Connectivity, security, and management related to data have never been more important for business success. That’s why we’ve introduced an interconnectivity solution to connect businesses to the centers of data exchange they need to thrive.

ServiceFabric™, Digital Realty’s service orchestration platform, seamlessly interconnects workflow participants, applications, clouds, and ecosystems in two or more locations, whether they’re in the same metro area or halfway around the world from each other. The goal is threefold: allow customers to 1) securely host critical infrastructure and data sets; 2) connect to anyone, anytime, anywhere; and 3) deploy and manage infrastructure effectively and efficiently across PlatformDIGITAL®, Digital Realty’s global data center platform.

Let’s take a closer look at how our open platform approach is driving the growth of new interconnection hubs.

Empowering Flexibility Through Open Systems

The data economy requires a new business architecture where network infrastructure and data come together. The challenge in this setup lies in the integration. In order to create seamless, reliable interconnection, we need an approach that moves beyond cross connects and traditional interconnection and toward an era of open, pervasively Connected Data Communities™.

ServiceFabric™ allows us to remove legacy barriers and deliver next generation interconnection because it makes diverse, direct, and personalized private connections easy. Once customers establish a port, which supports multiple virtual and private connections, they can then establish direct, private connections to multiple cloud service providers, network providers, software-as-a-service (SaaS) providers, and other participants of our platform from a single interface. They can also establish a virtual router to optimize cloud-to-cloud workflows.

With ServiceFabric™, the opportunities to customize and tailor interconnection to individual needs become virtually limitless. Beyond multi-cloud connectivity, customers can also connect to redundant cloud availability zones, our partner-enabled data centers, their inter-metro or inter-region partners, and their own deployments or redundant carrier circuits. They can also use the virtual router to combine multiple virtual services or exchange data directly between cloud service providers.
