EdgeConneX Announces Strategic Investment in Chayora

The global expansion for EdgeConneX continues with its recently announced market entry into China via a strategic investment in Chayora. This latest step in a year full of international M&A moves for EdgeConneX (ECX) offers the ability for them to scale at pace to meet customer requirements in a massively expanding digital market globally, and within a growing country and APAC region.

EdgeConneX, a leading global data center builder and operator offering services from hyperlocal to hyperscale, is investing in Chayora Data Centers in China. This strategic partnership will create an integrated platform optimized for scaling out Chayora’s product to other major markets throughout mainland China, in addition to Beijing and Shanghai.

Chayora’s data centers in China provide a substantial worldwide platform for data center customers who require either hyperlocal edge capacity highly proximate to their end users or hyperscale capacity built to suit customers’ unique specifications. Now, the EdgeConneX Chayora partnership can support firms in China, or dozens of other markets across the world, with international needs through an integration of their data center platforms.

In addition to being a strategic investor, Brouckman will be taking on the role of Non-Executive Chairman of Chayora Holdings. He says, “Our union creates a powerful team in what’s now seen to be the world’s largest market for new DC development throughout the coming years. With deep committed capital resources from Swedish EQT and UK-based Actis, we are particularly looking to help accelerate Chayora’s expansion to serve international customers. ”

The Chinese data center market is forecasted to grow by more than two thirds by 2025, with a 170 percent boom called for multi-tenant (or colocation) facilities. Chayora has a hyperscale, carrier-neutral data center campus in Beijing, plus a new campus currently under development in Shanghai. The facilities across the two campuses jointly can scale to more than 35,000 racks and 200MW in IT load, with access to 100 percent renewable energy.

With the Shanghai data campus slated to be ready for service by Q4 2022, Chayora’s Jones stresses that only builds upon their whole reason for being, which is to enable their customers to participate efficiently and effectively in the Chinese digital economy. “We do that by developing, investing and designing and then operating data center campuses, not just single data centers. Actually, we do that by thinking about everything around our customer’s business that they may need to be successful,” Jones says.
