These days it feels like AI is everywhere you turn. With Humane’s wearable AI pin, you can make that feeling a literal reality.
The first product from San Francisco-based start-up Humane, which was founded by former Apple designers Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, the pin offers hands-free, AI-powered connectivity in the form of a magnetic pin. Designed to replace your smartphone, the AirPods-case-sized pin offers all the standard smartphone services—texts, calls, and information as well as a speaker and camera—plus a laser display that turns your palm into a mini screen and access to AI from the Internet rather than through downloaded apps.
In the promotional film, the pin is shown to support live translation, video capture, music requests, health questions, weather alerts, and basic life admin like flight reminders, but the use possibilities are virtually endless. Contrary to lots of modern technology, it’s not always listening either: It doesn’t engage with you until you engage with it through voice, touch, gestures, or the laser display.
In addition to the upfront device cost (starting at 699 USD), use of the pin requires a monthly network subscription of 24 USD (plus any additional app costs, like Tidal music). Orders are open now for the first launch in early 2024.
