McLean, Virginia (August 11, 2022) – The Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), the trade association representing the National Capital Region’s technology community, today announced that IBM and Visa executives have joined the leadership board of NVTC’s Data Center and Cloud Community, one of the Council’s eight Communities of Interest.
Northern Virginia is the leading data center market in the world and continues to grow. Home to approximately 250 data centers, the region more than doubled its capacity to host servers between 2018 and 2021. The Northern Virginia region exceeds the next five U.S. markets combined and is twice the size of the next largest international market, London.
“The growth of our data center community has been remarkable. Now with IBM and Visa joining the leadership board of the NVTC Data Center and Cloud Community, our council continues to connect, promote, and celebrate the rapid growth of this sector. Data centers are the lifeblood of our digital economy and contribute significantly to the economic growth of our region,” said NVTC President and CEO Jennifer Taylor. “I am pleased to welcome Jonathan Tuil (IBM) and Steve Cridlin (Visa) to our esteemed Community leadership.”
The NVTC Data Center and Cloud Community board consists of key leaders from the digital infrastructure sector, including Vinay Nagpal, Chair (InterGlobix); Stan Blackwell, Vice Chair (Dominion Energy); James Leach (Telos); Rob Hepler (Equinix); Zach Miller (Google); John Bean (Digital Realty); Brouk Eshetu (CoreSite); Jonathan Tuil (IBM); and Steve Cridlin (Visa).
“On behalf of the board, I welcome Jon and Steve to the team,” said Vinay Nagpal, chair of the NVTC Data Center and Cloud Community, and president of InterGlobix. “With IBM and Visa serving on the Community’s board, we are now even more well-rounded, representing the full tech ecosystem, including companies in the wholesale, retail, hyperscale, enterprise, cloud, security, and data center consulting subsectors of the digital infrastructure industry.”
The mission of the NVTC Data Center and Cloud Community is to provide a clear, consistent, collective, and compelling voice for promoting the interests of the region’s data center, cloud, and critical infrastructure community in an effort to contribute to the long-term growth and prosperity of the global tech industry. In 2022, the Community released its fourth biennial flagship report, The Impact of Data Centers on the State and Local Economies of Virginia.
The next meeting of the NVTC Data Center and Cloud Community will be held on September 15, 2022 at 9:00 am ET on the topic of “Convergence of Edge Data Centers, Wireline and Wireless.” Keynote speakers will be Juan Font, president, CoreSite, and Jake Rasweiler, SVP of Innovation, American Tower.
