With so much of your working life devoted to understanding and speaking to the needs of customers, how do you unplug and cater to your own needs outside of working hours?
Frankly I’m not sure any of us can truly unplug right now; our industry is experiencing unprecedented demand and an unprecedented lack of supply, so it’s all hands on deck. That said, one of the things I enjoy is interacting with our customers and industry friends at fun events. I think it’s always great to bring work and relaxation together; we’re a small industry, and generally everyone likes spending time with one another. I also include my wife and my daughters in industry events—they have better relationships with some of the customers and industry folks than I do!
If I truly do have extra time, I love spending it outdoors—skiing, wind surfing, pretty much anything that has to deal with water.
