Informal Interactions with Mayank Srivastava

With your career so intertwined with technology and being “switched on,” how do you unplug and create time and space to be offline outside of working hours?

So, when it comes to balancing work and personal life, I’ve been asked about it a fair bit. Well, I find this idea of “switching off” a little preposterous. I believe being constantly “ON” actually enhances all aspects of life, including family. There’s just so much more richness to the moments when I’m fully present.

Take tonight, for example. I’ve just touched down, and what’s the first thing I do? Start prepping for a traditional Indian dish that’ll take me four hours to cook. My kid is here, too, studying away—he’s a freshman in college and he loves his dad’s food (still!). To clear my mind, I sit for meditation for about 45 mins everyday. And when I really need some serious grounding, I go to my best friend—my wife!
