Solid Foundations, New Beginnings

Data center boom and the resurgence of Sterling and Wilson Data Center

Data centers are the lifeblood of the digital economy. Around the world, the fast-paced digitalization fueled by AI is driving rapid growth in the data center industry. Southeast Asia, Middle East, and Africa have experienced tremendous advancement, and various countries in the region present double-digit growth opportunities.

In the dynamic world of data centers, innovation is shaping the future at an unprecedented pace. Hyperscale facilities are emerging as the backbone for cloud computing and AI workloads, meeting the surge in demand with sheer capacity and efficiency. Modular and prefabricated designs are transforming deployment, offering flexibility and scalability like never before. Meanwhile, edge computing is gaining traction, powering low-latency applications vital to IoT and 5G connectivity. Together, these trends are redefining the boundaries of technology and connectivity around the world.

India’s Data Center Boom

India’s burgeoning data center sector is poised for exponential growth, set to establish the country as a pivotal global data hub. Current projections indicate that data center capacity will surge from 950MW in 2024 to an impressive 1,800MW by 2026, eventually reaching a staggering 3.29GW by 2028. The market, which stood at 1.2 billion USD in 2021, has already expanded to 4.5 billion USD by 2023 and is on track to further escalate to 11.6 billion USD by 2032. This dramatic evolution underscores the monumental potential of India’s digital infrastructure landscape.

The Indian government and states are providing incentives for data center investments, such as tax benefits, land and power subsidies, and supportive policies, fueling the growth of the industry. India has over 130 operational data centers, with over 35 new ones planned for 2024-2026. Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Chennai host the majority of data centers in the country.
