As a continuation of our collaboration with Infrastructure Masons, a global, non-profit, professional association of individuals motivated to make a better-connected world for everyone, we bring you an exclusive feature story that spotlights one of the most profound topics of our civilizations—climate change.
With steady increases every year in global temperatures, carbon dioxide levels, and sea level rise, Earth and all its inhabitants are at risk, and the usual balance of nature is being continually disrupted in irreversible ways.
Climate change isn’t just about hot days and heat waves. Real, observable, human-caused changes across the Earth’s land, oceans, and atmosphere create a knock on effect of change that impacts everything from daily weather patterns to large-scale resource availability. Extreme events like wildfires and hurricanes start more easily, spread more rapidly, and become more intense when conditions are hotter, drier, and less stable. Droughts, floods, blizzards, and other intense weather-related experiences also become more frequent and put crops, lives, and ways of living in danger. Oceans are warming and becoming more acidic, ice caps are melting and destroying natural habitats, and sea levels are rising and threatening to overtake cities.
While the impact of climate change will vary by location and over time, it is happening more and more every day, and it presents significant challenges and damage costs to our society, our environment, and our entire planet. We need to do something about it—and fast. That’s where the digital infrastructure industry comes in.
