Robust Local Terrestrial Networks:

  • More than 30 major carriers and communication providers
  • Growing dark fiber availability

Numerous Intercity Connections:

  • Multiple diverse terrestrial fiber routes between Hampton Roads and Richmond region
  • Growing and diverse connections to major centers including Ashburn (Northern Virginia), Chicago, and Atlanta

Dedicated Network Rings:

  • The municipal governments of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Norfolk, and Suffolk are building a 119-mile fiber ring that is expected to be completed by summer 2024 
  • An extension also is under construction in Isle of Wight and Southampton counties 

Multiple Data Centers:

  • 12 data centers operate in the megaregion
  • More data centers are planned
  • Two world-class data centers (QTS and Meta)

Reliable Power: 

  • 24% of Dominion Energy’s output powers data centers today

Subsea Cables:

  • Three subsea cables come ashore in the Camp Pendleton area of Virginia Beach
  • Capacity available for fourth subsea cable
  • Globalinx has received all permits for an additional cable landing site in the Sandbridge area of Virginia Beach, with a capacity of four conduits.
